Published Date: Friday, 31 August 2018

The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Rector’s Office came together with the representatives of privately-owned dormitories at the EMU Rector’s Office Senate Meeting Room on Friday, the 17th of August 2018.

A previous meeting had taken place with the representatives on Wednesday, the 15th of August 2018. The meetings aimed to discuss measures and solution recommendations to ensure that students don’t become victims of the recent fluctuation in the foreign exchange market in terms of accommodation. Rector’s Office and dormitory representatives acted quickly and swiftly completed their search for solutions.

Privately Owned Dormitories Decide To Use Fixed Exchange Rate

As a result of the meetings, the privately-owned dormitories decided to use a fixed exchange rate, apply discounts and allow Turkish citizens to pay in Turkish Lira. The representatives announced that they are applying a %10 discount and that they have fixed the exchange rate in order for 1 Dollar to equal 5 Turkish Liras. EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam thanked the dormitory representatives for taking swift precautions and highlighted the importance of providing students with a comfortable, peaceful and happy environment as well as a quality education. The decisions will be put in to application by the Alfam, Astra Plus, Golden Plus, Home Dorm, Kamacıoğlu, Marmara, Nural, Pop Art and Ramen student dormitories.

EMU Provides Important Opportunities for Students

The EMU Rector’s Office took important decisions of their own to help students through their own means during these difficult economic times. The Rector’s Office decided to provide a %10 discount at university owned dormitories in addition to providing three low-priced meals per day at the university restaurant. During registration period (until the 28th of September 2018) there will be contributions to the one-way ticket prices of students travelling from Turkey to the TRNC.

The meeting was attended by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Vice Rector for International Affairs and Promotion Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova, International Affairs and Promotion Coordinator Academic Staff Member Ozan İnamlık, International Student Affairs Coordinator Ahmed Kasım and Assistant General Secretary (a.) Kazım Hakverdi.
