EMU 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester Graduation Ceremonies Held on 15-16 February

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester Graduation Ceremonies were held online on 15-16 February due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Postgraduate Graduation Ceremony took place on Monday, 15 February, at 16:00. On the other hand, Associate and Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony took place on Tuesday, 16 February, at 16:00. Ceremonies were broadcasted through EMU’s official social media accounts (Youtube, Instagram and Facebook) as well as the EMU TV social media accounts (Facebook, Youtube). Total 1,361 EMU students (301 master’s & PhD gradutes and, 1,060 associate and undergrate program graduates) from 55 different countries graduted during the online graduation ceremonies.

TRNC State Officials Addressed the Graduates

Graduation ceremonies included the speeches of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ersan Saner and, Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu.

President Ersin Tatar congratulated EMU graduates and wished them to contribute to the countries where they will work with the quality education they received at world standards. Moreover, President Tatar advised the graduates to continue lifelong education.

Prime Minister Ersan Saner also congratulated the graduates and presented brief information on EMU’s history. By stating that EMU has had total of 63,083 graduates from 123 different countries until now, Prime Minister Saner touched on the fact that the graduates have received education from a quality institution such as EMU and expressed his belief that the TRNC will contribute to the promotion of the country as volunteer diplomats abroad.

Minister for National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu also congratulated the graduates and thanked all the academic staff members, university administration and families who have contributed the success of students during their studies at EMU by saying; “You must not forget that you have brothers and sisters here in TRNC who will always be happy to embrace you”.

EMU Board of Trustees President Dr. Özcenk and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hocanın’s messages

EMU Board of Trustees President Dr. Erdal Özcenk addressed the graduates during the ceremonies: “Dear graduates; I congratulate you for your success. You have achieved this success as a result of your hard work. You have graduated from a long-established institution like EMU as full-fledged individuals. You are now ready for your professional lives. During this time, I would like to express that we are very pleased to host you in the TRNC and our university. EMU is a very large family integrated with its students, employees, the people of the TRNC and the city of Famagusta. You, as a part of our family, will carry the torch of science burning here all over the world.”

EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın also addressed the graduates by saying; “Dear graduates; after a long, intense and tiring education process, you graduated from EMU as experts in your fields and, you are now ready for your professional lives. I am proud of each of you and congratulate you wholeheartedly. You are opening a brand new and very important page in your lives in line with the goals you have set today. I firmly believe that you will fill this page with success with the education you received from our university”.

Speeches on behalf of Graduates

EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty, Department of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Computer Sciences PhD Program graduate Hasan Temizkan and EMU Business and Economics Faculty, Department of Banking and Finance Master’s Program graduate Diana Leskovskaya delivered speeches during the online ceremony on behalf of 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester Post Graduates. On the other hand, EMU Faculty of Pharmacy, B. Pharm Program Graduate Bilge Türkseven and EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Languages, English Language Teaching Undergraduate Program graduate Anna Elizabeth Hart took the floor on behalf of 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester Associate and Undergraduate Program Graduates.

Online ceremonies also included the speeches of international country representatives, artists, Faculty Deans, School Directors and Director for Institute of Graduate Research and Studies. With its increasing number of graduates each year, EMU’s total number of graduates reached over 63 thousand with the 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester graduates.
