Team “Ada” Comprised of EMU Engineering Students will be Representing the University at the Electromobile 2018 Competition

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam visited Team ADA, the team that will be representing EMU at the Electromobile 2018 Competition organized by TÜBİTAK. During his visit to the Department of Mechanical Engineering on the 19th of July 2018 Prof. Dr. Osam wished the team the best of luck for the “Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle” competition which will be taking place at the Kocaeli Gulf Race Track between 6th and 12th of August 2018.

During the race at which EMU’s team will be the only team from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Team ADA will be competing in the Electromobile and Autonomous Categories with their vehicle the “Mediterranean Shark”.

Entirely Developed in EMU

Taking place under the supervision of EMU Electric Vehicle Development Centre (EVDC) Chair Asst. Prof. Dr. Davut Solyalı the “Mediterranean Shark” project has been carried out by a team of local and international postgraduate students. The “Mediterranean Shark” project has been developed in EMU’s laboratories through the university’s own means.

During 2017 competition, the Faculty of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Department took part in the event with Z-ZERO electric car and came 20th amongst 74 participating teams in the performance rankings. The said project also received the Mechatronics Design award for its mechanical and electronic design, engineering work and localization.

EMU - The Only Representative of TRNC

In a statement, project coordinator Asst. Prof. Dr. Davut Solyalı touched upon the increase in the number of participating universities compared to the previous years by stating that this year’s number of participating teams has reached 86. Teams from Morocco, Kenya, Iran, Hungary and Pakistan will be joining the competition for the first time. The only representative from the TRNC will be EMU. Asst. Prof. Dr. Solyalı also mentioned that with this new cooperative project between the Electronic Vehichles Development Center and Department of Mechanical Engineering, their main goal is to develop a totally local and new vehicle. In this sense, all the necessary technologies are provided by EMU. Assist. Prof. Dr. Solyalı thanked the Rector’s Office and related Units within the university for such opportunities by emphasizing that the Rector’s Office works in harmony and always provides them with support.

Team Ada will go through technical checks between the 7th and 9th of August 2018. On the 11th of August 2018 it will compete in the autonomous race. Finally, between the 10th and 12th of August 2018 it will compete in the Electromobile and Hydromobile Race Finals.
