Assist. Prof. Dr. Fernandez Talks About EMU with the University Of Cambridge

World-renowned young mathematician Assist. Prof. Dr. Arran Fernandez gave an interview to the University of Cambridge and stated that he is glad to be an academic staff member in Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and also to be living in Northern Cyprus. Expressing that he has visited local schools in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in order to talk about the beauties of mathematics, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fernandez said that students were fascinated by someone from University Cambridge coming to EMU as an academic staff member and, they realized that EMU is a world university.

Following his doctoral study, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fernandez wrote to EMU to be able to come and do research. Assist. Prof. Dr. Fernandez started his duty as a guest academician in EMU in 2018. During the interview, he said: “It is a quite interesting story for me. People find it interesting for someone who studied in Cambridge to choose here but not anywhere in the world to continue his studies. I am happy to be here”.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Fernandez is a member of EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty, Department of Mathematics since 2018. Even though he is 25 years old, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fernandez achieved many success until today. He continues to teach at EMU Department of Mathematics and the students of Engineering Faculty. EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Özarslan expressed the university’s happiness to have Assist. Prof. Dr. Arran Fernandez as a member of EMU family. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Özaraslan also stated that having such an important academician in the university plays a vital role for EMU.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Fernandez had the highest score at the GCSE mathematics exam in 2003 and became the youngest person ever to complete the exam with the highest score. Assist. Prof. Dr. Fernandez, while being at the age of 15, has begun his education at Cambridge University Difficult High Mathematics education in 2010. Dr. Fernandez became the youngest student that had been accepted to an undergraduate program by Cambridge University since 1773. Assist. Prof. Dr. Fernandez graduated from Cambridge University, Mathematics Undergraduate Program in January, 2013 with a High Honor Degree and was awarded “Senior Wrangler” title that is given to the best mathematicians in England and which is considered as “the highest level of intellectual success”. Dr. Fernandez completed his doctoral degree in Cambridge University in the field of Mathematics in 2018, at the age of 23.
